Heroku says 'everything up to date'

Aug. 16, 2013

This is probably very obvious to most people but it threw me for a loop while I was working on heroku tonight so I decided to state my problem with a very google-able title. Are you working on a heroku app and after making changes and running.

git push heroku master

You're getting a helpful message that says

Everything up-to-date

Well, if you're working on a branch you actually need to run

git push heroku <your branch>:master

This is just basic git usage, but I over looked it for quite some time and couldn't find a resource explaining what I did wrong.

Hopefully this helps someone.
